Earth experiencing moderate magnetic storm
A moderate magnetic storm is being observed on Earth on November 26, according to space weather monitoring data from the Institute of Applied Geophysics (IPG).
"The magnetic storm is continuing," IPG said in a statement, TASS reports.
The degree of perturbation of the Earth's magnetic field has now reached the G2 level, meaning "moderate" on the monitoring scale of five indicators, where G5 is "extremely strong" and G1 is "weak."
A G2 level means there could be problems with energy systems on Earth. Disruptions in radio navigation and disruptions in high-frequency radio communications are also likely. Polar lights are recorded up to latitudes of 50 degrees.
In the last seven days, scientists have recorded several strong flares of class M on the Sun, some of which led to the ejection of particles towards the Earth.
