Earthquakes recorded in Kyrgyzstan and China, seismologists say
Seismologists have recorded separate earthquakes in Kyrgyzstan and neighbouring China, according to the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences.
As reported by Kyrgyz media, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.5 at the epicentre struck Kyrgyzstan on December 26 at 22:17 local time.
The epicentre was located within the country, five kilometres northwest of the village of Egin-Zhai, 13 kilometres northwest of Langar, 14 kilometres southwest of Karagandy, and 20 kilometres southwest of Kara-Otok.
The intensity of ground shaking reached 3.5 points in the village of Egin-Zhai, while residents of Langar, Karagandy, and Kara-Otok experienced tremors of up to three points.
The Institute of Seismology also reported that another earthquake occurred overnight in China. Its epicentre was situated 165 kilometres southeast of Naryn and 178 kilometres southwest of Karakol.
According to the institute, the tremors from the earthquake in China were not felt in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.
