Ebola suspected in Israeli citizen returning from DR Congo

Israel’s Health Ministry has said a citizen who recently returned from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is suspected of being infected with the Ebola virus after returning from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The ministry noted that the man returned to Israel several days ago and sought medical attention after developing a fever, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

According to the ministry, Ebola is only suspected at this stage, and the necessary tests are being conducted, with results expected within the next 24 hours.

A total of 1,960 people have now died from Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with 4,294 confirmed cases of infection.

Currently, 722 patients are in isolation or hospitalised, while 849 people have recovered.

The most difficult situation remains in the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, Haut-Uele and Tshuapa.

No new cases have been recorded in South Kivu for 73 days.

The virus spread from Ituri to neighbouring Uganda, where 20 cases of infection were previously reported, and two patients died.

On July 28, Ugandan authorities declared the outbreak over and said the country was “free of Ebola.”
