Effigy of Netanyahu set ablaze in Spain’s El Burgo VIDEO
An effigy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was burned in the Spanish town of El Burgo, according to a video published by Telegram channel Mash.
Footage shows the effigy being set on fire, followed by explosions that tore the figure apart, with attendees applauding the destruction.
The incident triggered a strong reaction in Israel. The Jerusalem Post reported that the Israeli Foreign Ministry summoned Spain’s ambassador for explanations, calling the event an act of “blatant antisemitic hatred” driven by “systematic incitement” from the Spanish government and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
Spain’s Foreign Ministry, meanwhile, stated on social media that the government is committed to fighting antisemitism and all forms of discrimination, rejecting any claims suggesting otherwise.
Relations between Israel and Spain have become strained due to the war in Gaza, with Spain accusing Israel of violating international law and restricting the use of its airspace and ports for weapons shipments intended for the Israeli military.
