Egypt bus station bloodshed leaves eight victims dead, five injured
A gunman opened fire at a bus station in Egypt, killing eight people and injuring five others, the country’s Interior Ministry said.
The incident took place in the city of Abnub, about 300 kilometres south of Cairo in Assiut Governorate, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
According to the ministry, the attacker opened indiscriminate fire on people at the bus station on the evening of May 18. After the assault, security forces located him in agricultural land, where he was shot dead during an exchange of fire with police.
The ministry added that the man had previously suffered from mental health disorders and had received treatment at a psychiatric hospital in Cairo.
Egypt’s Public Prosecution has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
