Egypt’s Gaza reconstruction plan set for Arab Summit presentation

03 March 2025 17:36

Egypt's Foreign Minister, Badar Abadelatty, announced that the Egyptian-Arab-Islamic reconstruction plan for Gaza is ready to be presented at the upcoming Extraordinary Arab Summit in Cairo on March 6.

This plan, which aims to ensure that Palestinians remain on their land, will be a focal point of discussions at the summit, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

Minister Abadelatty made these remarks during a joint press conference with Dubravka Šuica, the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean,

He briefed Šuica on the details of the reconstruction plan, emphasizing that it was crafted with the intention of restoring Gaza while ensuring Palestinians stay on their land.

The summit will bring together Arab and Islamic leaders to present a unified stance against the controversial proposal from US President Donald Trump, which suggested taking control of Gaza, forcibly displacing Palestinians to other Arab and Muslim countries, and creating a "Middle Eastern Riviera."

This proposal sparked a global outcry, leading Egypt, Jordan, Palestinians, and other Arab countries to reject it outright. Arab leaders reiterated that the establishment of a Palestinian state remains the only fair solution to the Palestinian issue.

Abadelatty also noted that the reconstruction plan will not be shared with foreign parties until it is officially approved at the summit. He stressed the urgency of initiating recovery programs in Gaza and the need for a political process that would culminate in the establishment of a Palestinian state, thereby preventing future cycles of violence.

"The Israeli aggression we've seen over the past months was not the first and won't be the last as long as no political agreement appears on the horizon ... to achieve the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish their state," Abadelatty emphasized.

Egypt’s FM further urged the European Union to help consolidate the three-phase ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel. He underscored that Israel's delay in talks regarding the second phase of the ceasefire—focused on ending the war and withdrawing military forces from Gaza—is a significant concern.

The minister also condemned Israel's use of aid as a tool for collective punishment, asserting that it is "unacceptable."
