Egypt's president warns against forcible displacement of Palestinians

29 January 2025 21:32

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has stated that the forced displacement of Palestinians from their territories would threaten Egypt's national security and must be prevented.

“Palestinians should not be displaced from their land, as it poses a direct threat to Egypt’s national security. The deportation of Palestinians is an unjust move, and we cannot participate in it,” he said, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

El-Sisi stated that his country had warned that the actions in Gaza were aimed at making the enclave uninhabitable and forcing Palestinians to leave. However, the Egyptian president emphasised that Cairo would not abandon its stance on the Palestinian issue and is determined to work toward implementing the two-state solution with US President Donald Trump.

"Peoples have rights that cannot be ignored, but over the past 70 years, we have witnessed a clear historical injustice against the Palestinian people. Everything we have seen since October 7, 2023, and up to the present moment, is a direct result of the Palestinian issue remaining unresolved," the president said.

On January 25, Trump told reporters that he believes it is possible to resettle residents of the Gaza Strip, who have lost their houses due to Israeli military operations, in Arab countries. He stated that around 1.5 million people need to be resettled outside Gaza.

The US president added that he had already discussed this issue with King Abdullah II of Jordan and intends to address it in upcoming phone talks with the president of Egypt. The following day, Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi emphasised that the kingdom opposes the forced eviction of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

For its part, Egypt's Foreign Ministry deemed any violation of Palestinian rights, including their right to land, unacceptable, regardless of whether the measure is temporary or permanent.
