Envoy: Moscow-Berlin relations collapsing
German Ambassador to Russia Geza Andreas von Geyr has said that bilateral relations between Germany and Russia have deteriorated sharply since February 24.
However, the countries will remain neighbours with all the ensuing consequences, he said, according to Russia-based online newspaper Gazeta.Ru.
Geyr stated that bilateral relations between Germany and Russia have "dramatically worsened” since February 24, when Russia started invading Ukraine.
He also recalled that the two countries have faced many political crises over the past years, including the murder in the Berlin Tiergarten, a hacker attack on the German Bundestag, and the treatment of German non-government organisations (NGOs, and the media.
He added that there is currently a real collapse in the relationship between Germany and Russia in the fields of science, culture, and economics since February 2022, which may also spill over into the future of the ties. Those who advocated good interaction between the peoples of Germany and Russia have not remained silent, says Geyr.
He noted that these are the results of Russia's actions in Ukraine and after February 24, bilateral relations between Russia and Germany will continue to develop in a different direction.
