Erdoğan: Trump to serve as chief observer for Gaza ceasefire

14 October 2025 14:21

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said that U.S. President Donald Trump will act as the chief observer for the implementation of the ceasefire in Gaza.

Speaking to local media on his return flight from Egypt, Erdoğan stressed the importance of maintaining the halt to hostilities, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.

“We hope that, at this stage, fighting in Gaza has ceased. Trump’s statement on this matter is extremely important. He will serve as the chief observer in this regard. He himself confirmed this in our meetings. When we spoke informally, he suggested maintaining telephone contacts and not neglecting phone diplomacy,” Erdoğan said.

He added that ongoing diplomatic efforts at all levels would continue. “The diplomacy we have established with Trump is very important. We intend to continue it and will do everything necessary to create an atmosphere of peace. All the countries gathered in Egypt will act as guarantors of this atmosphere,” he noted.

Highlighting the importance of a sustained ceasefire, Erdoğan also warned of potential violations. “It is crucial that the ceasefire in Gaza is lasting, and that no violations occur. Israel’s record regarding ceasefire violations is not particularly strong, which requires greater vigilance.

Türkiye, the United States, and other countries are determined to uphold this ceasefire. Israel, in essence, understands that the cost of returning to hostilities will be high. Many previous agreements remained on paper, but now there is a stronger and more unified will,” he said.
