Fire breaks out at oil refinery in Russia’s Syzran after Ukrainian attack PHOTO / UPDATED

15 September 2026 09:33

The Syzran oil refinery in Russia’s Samara Region, owned by Rosneft, caught fire following a Ukrainian attack, according to an OSINT analysis by ASTRA based on videos filmed by eyewitnesses.

At least one of the fire hotspots is located within the refinery’s tank farm, ASTRA reports.

Earlier, the governor of Samara Region said an unnamed industrial facility had been damaged during the overnight attack.

The Syzran Oil Refinery is one of the largest oil-processing facilities in Samara Region and is part of the Rosneft group. It produces petrol, diesel and aviation fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, liquefied petroleum gases and other products.

The refinery processes between 7 million and 8.5 million tonnes of crude oil annually.

ASTRA has previously reported several attacks on the Syzran refinery. A fire at the facility was last reported on 8 August, following incidents on August 4 and July 12.

After the July attack, the refinery completely halted operations. The facility was also targeted in May and April, as well as repeatedly in 2025.
