Estonia begins new phase of anti-tank ditch construction along Russian border
15 April 2026 14:32
Estonia’s armed forces have launched a new phase of building anti-tank ditches along the country’s border with Russia.
According to Estonian media, the 2nd Infantry Brigade of the Defence Forces has begun constructing anti-tank ditches along the southeastern border in the Setomaa municipality.
The ditches will stretch for about 20 kilometres and will be dug primarily on private land.
Earlier, in December last year, Estonia began building its first five bunkers near the Russian border. In the coming months, another 23 bunkers are set to be constructed, with plans to build up to 600 bunkers by the end of 2027 in the northeastern and southeastern parts of the country, along with a 40-kilometre anti-tank ditch.
