Estonia refuses to evacuate Kyiv embassy despite strike warnings
27 May 2026 15:33
Estonia has decided not to evacuate its diplomatic staff from Kyiv despite a warning from the Russian Foreign Ministry about potential retaliatory strikes on military targets in the Ukrainian capital, according to Estonia’s national public broadcaster ERR.
The warning followed an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the city of Starobilsk, after which Moscow signalled the possibility of retaliatory strikes.
Commenting on the situation, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said that Tallinn has no plans to withdraw its embassy personnel and will continue its diplomatic presence in Ukraine.
“Our embassy in Kyiv will remain open, our diplomats will not leave,” Tsahkna said.
