Estonian FM urges new sanctions on Russia after deadly strike on Odesa
Estonia’s Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has called for tougher sanctions on Russia following a deadly overnight strike on the Ukrainian city of Odesa, saying expressions of “deep concern” are no longer sufficient.
In a post on X, Tsahkna described the attack as “another Russia’s brutality in Odesa,” saying strikes hit residential buildings where civilians were sleeping. He said a young mother and her two-year-old child were among those killed, Caliber.Az reports.

“Words of ‘deep concern’ are not enough,” he wrote. “As long as Russian oil and gas are funded, this terror continues. Without new sanctions packages, we give Russia the means to keep killing children. Silence and complacency cost lives.”
Ukrainian authorities said at least three people, including a child, were killed in the large-scale overnight strike on April 6. According to emergency services, the attacks targeted residential buildings, infrastructure facilities and administrative premises in the Kyivskyi and Prymorskyi districts of the city.
