EU advances discussions on resuming contacts with Russia, says Finnish FM

The European Union is actively discussing the possibility of resuming contacts with Russia and has made significant progress on the issue, Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen said in an interview with Yle.

“It is important first to agree on our objectives and how we want to proceed. We have already come quite far in this matter,” Valtonen added.

The minister noted that the start of negotiations will be determined by developments on the battlefield and the broader situation in Ukraine. She stressed that, first and foremost, it hinges on Russia’s genuine readiness to pursue peace.

According to Yle, allies may also address the issue of dialogue with Russia at the NATO summit scheduled for July in Türkiye.
