EU excludes alumina from 21st sanctions package on Russia

Aluminium and its key raw material, alumina, will not be included in the European Union’s sanctions against Russia under the 21st package, despite a political scandal in Ireland.

The remarks were made at a briefing in Brussels by European Commission spokesperson Siobhán McGarry, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“We did not include alumina in the 21st package,” McGarry said. “But we are monitoring the situation in Ireland and are awaiting the results of the Irish authorities’ investigation.”

Earlier, a political scandal erupted in Ireland over reports of significant exports of locally produced alumina to Russia, despite the absence of restrictions on trade in this raw material.
