EU Parliament pushes blacklist expansion targeting Iranian security officials
The European Parliament has adopted resolutions addressing serious human rights concerns in Iran, calling for stronger international pressure and expanded sanctions in response to worsening conditions in all three countries.
MEPs expressed strong concern over the situation in Iran, condemning what they described as large-scale repression of protesters, dissidents, political prisoners and religious minorities.
The resolution highlights reports of executions and detentions linked to political activity, including cases involving minors.
Parliament called on the European Union to expand sanctions against Iranian officials allegedly responsible for human rights abuses, including members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and entities linked to the country’s leadership.
It also urged EU member states to restrict entry for individuals involved in repression and to close diplomatic channels considered connected to transnational surveillance or intimidation.
MEPs further called for support for secure internet access for Iranian citizens amid reported restrictions and outages, and stressed the need to adequately fund the UN fact-finding mission investigating alleged crimes against humanity.
