EU ready to increase pressure on Russia, reinforce support for Ukraine

The European Union has reiterated its readiness to intensify pressure on Russia in response to its ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine, according to document adopted by union following the European summit.

Hence, the EU underscored its commitment to enforcing additional sanctions and strengthening measures to prevent circumvention, Caliber.Az reports.

This, it believes, will limit Russia’s capacity to continue its military actions.

The EU's stance, outlined in the document adopted after the summit, also calls for the continued immobilisation of Russia’s assets until it ends the war and compensates Ukraine for the damage caused. The Union emphasized that Ukraine’s path to a just and lasting peace, which is vital for both Ukraine and Europe, will be supported through continued contributions to the peace process.

The European Council made it clear that any peace agreement must respect Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. For the peace to be credible, Ukraine must be provided with robust security guarantees that can deter future aggression from Russia. The EU welcomed the ongoing efforts in collaboration with NATO and like-minded partners in strengthening these security assurances for Ukraine.

Furthermore, the European Union reaffirmed its commitment to providing Ukraine with consistent financial aid. The European Council called on the European Commission to take swift action in frontloading financing under the Ukraine Facility and the G7 ERA initiative. The Commission, along with EU Member States, was urged to explore all available avenues to bolster Ukraine's financial support, ensuring its resilience during the ongoing conflict.

With a focus on both economic and security assistance, the EU’s position reflects its ongoing determination to help Ukraine defend itself while striving for a peaceful resolution to the war.
