EU remains dependent on Russian uranium

The European Commission still plans to restrict the import of enriched uranium from Russia, but cannot yet provide a precise timeline for its proposal.

"This is still planned, but I don't have any data to share with you at this time," European Commission (EC) spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen stated at a briefing in Brussels.

In June 2025, the EC postponed the publication of proposals to ban EU countries from importing nuclear fuel from Russia. According to Eurostat, Russia currently supplies 38% of all enriched uranium imported into the EU.
