EU’s enlargement chief to advance peace, regional connectivity, during Armenia visit
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos is set to visit Armenia on September 19–20 as part of her diplomatic tour of the South Caucasus, following her visit to Azerbaijan. The trip comes at a strategically significant time for the region, as Armenia and Azerbaijan navigate a delicate phase in their ongoing peace negotiations.
The visit is intended to reinforce the European Union’s commitment to regional engagement and support for stability and reconciliation in the South Caucasus, Caliber.Az reports via the EU.
During her stay in Yerevan, Commissioner Kos will hold high-level meetings with key Armenian officials, including President Vahagn Khachaturyan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, as well as the Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan.
These discussions are expected to cover a range of topics, from bilateral cooperation to regional security and the broader EU-Armenia partnership.
“With the Armenia–Azerbaijan peace process, there is now an opportunity to reinforce EU cooperation in the region and advance the EU's connectivity agenda, at the heart of the Black Sea Strategy, and as a concrete contribution to regional development,” the EU stated.
In addition to her official meetings, Commissioner Kos will participate in the signing of two cooperation projects with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
She will also visit the EU4Sevan biodiversity project site, and tour the TUMO Centre of Creative Technologies.
Her agenda also includes meetings with representatives of Armenian civil society and Young European Ambassadors.
