EU troops to stage military drill in Bosnia
About 250 Bosnia-bound soldiers arrived in Croatia from Italy on October 15 ahead of a month-long military exercise of the EU military force (EUFOR) in neighbouring Bosnia-Herzegovina, with another contingent of soldiers was expected to join them soon.
The Quick Response 2022 will be comprised of soldiers from 20 countries and will take place between 17 October and 20 November, Euractiv reports.
EUFOR said it would “temporarily augment its footprint through the contribution of additional troops, increased patrolling and tactical exercises in selected urban and rural areas.”
EUFOR is a military deployment in Bosnia and Herzegovina that oversees the military implementation of the 1995 Dayton Agreement – a peace deal which set up the post-war BiH.
“As was the case with previous exercises, EUFOR QUICK RESPONSE 22 again shows the European Union’s commitment to a European future for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” the EU military force said.
In a recent annual enlargement report, the European Commission recommended that Bosnia and Herzegovina be granted the official status of a candidate country, on the understanding that the country will undertake reforms in several key areas.
