EU: Ukraine peace discussions depend on Russia’s willingness to end war
The European Commission has said that discussions about appointing a European Union representative to participate in peace talks on Ukraine would only be appropriate if Russia demonstrates a genuine willingness to end the war.
Speaking to journalists, European Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho said such discussions could take place “at the appropriate time” if there are clear indications that Moscow is serious about pursuing peace, Caliber.Az reports per Ukrainian media.
However, she stressed that the Commission currently sees no signs that Russian President Vladimir Putin is prepared to engage in meaningful peace negotiations.
Pinho declined to provide further details regarding the possible appointment of envoys, noting that the European Commission’s position on the issue has already been stated repeatedly.
