Euronews: Baku Security Forum unites the world in fighting global crises VIDEO

01 October 2025 12:09

The Baku Security Forum, held in a region that connects East and West and advocates for peace and diplomacy, is once again becoming a platform for key discussions on global security, reads a video report by Euronews entitled “Baku Security Forum 2025: terrorism, cyber threats, and global crises.”

“The Baku Security Forum is an international event that identifies global and regional threats and risks while exploring ways to mitigate them. The annual gathering of security experts from intelligence agencies across all continents clearly demonstrates that the forum is a space for trust and cooperation,” Ali Naghyiev, Head of Azerbaijan’s State Security Service, quoted President Ilham Aliyev as saying while opening the forum.

The report notes that the forum brought together representatives from over 80 countries. Participants discussed countering terrorism, cybercrime, disinformation, and humanitarian crises, aiming to strengthen cross-border cooperation in the field of security.

“Terrorists know how to cooperate and undermine governments, as well as destroy the lives of civilians, such as ISIS or Al-Qaeda. Therefore, we as states must cooperate. Otherwise, they [terrorists] can surpass us, sow chaos, destroy, and kill people without regard for any authority. Cooperation is key. It is absolutely essential. There is no other way to tackle these threats,” said Noordin Mohamed Haji, Chief of Kenya’s National Intelligence Service, according to Euronews.

The channel also highlighted that the UN was represented at the forum for the first time, noting that this “reflects the importance of international dialogue, paving the way for practical outcomes.”

“From the UN perspective, participation in such events gives us the opportunity to engage with a key part of the security community. <…> It helps us build strategies based on intelligence, and there is nothing better than doing this in person, face to face,” said Nigel Lazarus, Programme Manager and Law Enforcement Advisor at the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), as quoted in the report.

The report also emphasises that the forum served as a platform for constructive dialogue between countries involved in conflicts, such as Azerbaijan and Armenia.

“If you cannot sit down and talk, you cannot solve many of the problems we face, numerous security challenges, whether it is the war of Russia against Ukraine, events in Gaza, Sudan, or other countries in Africa. Only through dialogue and such platforms can solutions be found. In this way, we adopt practices and learn from each other how to better address the issues facing the world,” said Kenya’s intelligence chief.

Meanwhile, Alejandro Colombo, Director of Argentina’s Intelligence Service, noted that the Baku Security Forum lasted three days, during which meetings with numerous countries were held and results were achieved “that would normally take years.” Relationships were strengthened even with countries with which previously there had been limited contacts.

“From geopolitical tensions and renewed debates on multilateralism and security priorities to practical discussions, the talks reflected the urgency and complexity of contemporary global security challenges,” Euronews concluded.
