European Parliament demands full peace agreement before lifting sanctions on Russia
On November 27, the European Parliament adopted a resolution asserting that European Union sanctions against Russia must remain in place until a comprehensive peace agreement with Ukraine is fully negotiated and implemented.
The resolution emphasizes that “no sanction will be lifted until the peace agreement is agreed upon and enters into force.” Lawmakers also urged the EU to prepare additional robust measures should Russia decline to participate in substantive peace negotiations, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
The resolution further recommends the deployment of an international peacekeeping and monitoring mission under the mandate of the UN Security Council along the line of contact once hostilities have ceased.
“Given the current unstable security situation in Europe, maintaining the military presence of NATO and the United States along the eastern flank is crucial as a decisive factor for ensuring regional stability,” the resolution notes.
