Evaluation work kicks off on deep-lying formations of ACG block
Drilling of a new appraisal well aimed at gathering information about the deep gas reservoirs under the existing oil field has started in the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) structure, located in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.
As reported by BP-Azerbaijan, the operator of the block of fields, the well, called "a22z", will be drilled from the Chirag platform and through a sidetrack from the existing injection well "A22" will enter deep-seated gas reservoirs on the southern flank of the ACG structure, Report informs.
It is planned that the total depth of the well will be up to 4,500 metres, and it will take about three months to be drilled.
ACG is the largest block of oil fields in Azerbaijan. The first contract for the development of a block of fields was signed on September 20, 1994. On September 14, 2017, an updated agreement was signed, which provides for the development of fields until the end of 2049.
The share distribution of ACG shareholders is as follows: BP (30.37 per cent), SOCAR (25.0 per cent), MOL Group (9.57 per cent, instead of Chevron since April 16, 2020), INPEX (9.31 per cent), Equinor (7 .27 per cent), ExxonMobil (6.79 per cent), TPAO (5.73 per cent), ITOCHU (3.65 per cent), ONGC Videsh Limited (OVL) (2.31 per cent).
