US-Poland talks set to focus on security, eastern NATO defence
US President Donald Trump is set to meet with Polish President Karol Nawrocki on September 3 to discuss pressing security concerns and the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.
Central to the discussions will be the Ukrainian conflict and its regional implications, as well as the strategic deployment of American troops in Poland, Press Secretary of the Presidential Chancellery Rafał Leśkiewicz said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Polish media.
Leśkiewicz emphasized Poland’s critical position as NATO’s eastern flank and its role as a key economic and political partner in supporting Ukraine.
“This is extremely important because, on the one hand, we are NATO’s eastern flank, and on the other, we are an important economic and political partner for Ukraine as a whole,” Leśkiewicz noted.
Security issues on the agenda will specifically include the scale and duration of the American military presence on Polish soil, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen deterrence and defence capabilities amid regional tensions.
Polish President Karol Nawrocki will meet US President Donald Trump at the White House on September 3, in what will be Nawrocki’s first foreign trip since taking office.
The invitation for a working meeting was included in an official congratulatory letter from Trump, delivered on August 6, the day of Nawrocki’s inauguration.
During his election campaign, Nawrocki said he wanted his first trip abroad as president to be to the United States, potentially with a stop at the Vatican.
It will not be the first time Nawrocki has met Trump. The Polish leader visited the White House in May during the campaign, holding talks with the US president and members of his administration. The two also spoke by phone following Nawrocki’s victory in the June presidential election.
The September meeting is expected to focus on bilateral ties, security cooperation and NATO commitments, with Warsaw seeking to reinforce its strategic partnership with Washington.
