Ex-Spanish premier: US shifts alliances, now aligns with Russia
Former Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar has expressed the view that the United States has changed its allies, and now its ally is Russia.
"The Trump administration changed its allies," Caliber.Az quotes Aznar as saying in an interview with ABC.
"Their allies are no longer the Europeans and the Ukrainians. Their allies are the Russians."
He believes that the world is facing a shift in eras.
"Now it’s the dominance of force over norms," Aznar added.
He called for Europeans to reflect on why the past 15 or 20 years have been a political, economic, and strategic failure for Europe.
The former Prime Minister of Spain believes that there has been no more successful alliance in security matters than NATO.
"The U.S. gains nothing from Europe being in trouble," he noted. "But Europe gains nothing by trying to set policy without the U.S. or against the U.S."
