Explosion in Azerbaijan's Novkhani: Parents of late chess star in severe condition
On December 3, at 08:10, the Baku-based Republican Center for Emergency and Urgent Medical Assistance received a call regarding an explosion in a private house located in the Novkhani settlement of the Absheron district, Azerbaijan.
Two emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Management Union of Medical Territorial Units (TABIB).
In the wake of the explosion, two individuals were rescued from the rubble, as confirmed by the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES).
The rescued individuals, identified as Gasim Hashimov and Aida Hashimova, are the parents of the late chess grandmaster Vugar Hashimov. They sustained various injuries and were hospitalized at the Sumgayit Medical Center's Emergency Hospital.
The patient, born in 1949, was placed in the intensive care unit with first, second, and third-degree burns on both lower limbs and his face. The second patient, born in 1959, suffered a fractured left femur and a laceration on her left hand. Their conditions are considered severe, and treatment is ongoing.
As reported earlier, a separate explosion in a residential building in Sumgayit’s 13th microdistrict injured at least three people.
