Explosion reported in western Syria after Damascus blasts
20 August 2026 10:49
Syrian state television reported early on August 20 that an explosion was heard in the western countryside of Daraa, without providing details on the nature or source of the blast.
The incident came just days after explosions were heard across parts of Damascus and its suburbs, prompting questions over their origin and cause.
The broadcaster later revealed that, according to available information, the explosions heard over Damascus and its surroundings were caused by Israeli air defences intercepting Iranian missiles flying over Syrian airspace.
Residents of Damascus and its suburbs said they heard two consecutive explosions, sparking concern until the circumstances surrounding the blasts became clearer.
