FEROX armored vehicle set for Spanish production in strategic partnership

22 December 2025 01:59

UAE-based defence group EDGE and Spain’s EM&E Group have signed a technology transfer agreement that will allow the FEROX 6×6 armoured vehicle to be manufactured in Spain.

The agreement is between EM&E Group and EDGE subsidiary NIMR, a producer of wheeled military vehicles, per foreign media.

Under the contract, EM&E Group will handle the production of the FEROX 6×6 at its newly established facilities in Linares, in the province of Jaén, while gaining the capability to adapt the vehicle to the operational requirements of European armies.

The deal will expand EM&E Group’s land systems portfolio and position Spain as a hub for manufacturing and distributing the FEROX platform across Europe. The vehicle is based on the mission-proven NIMR JAIS 6×6 and is designed to operate in hostile environments, combining protection against ballistic threats, mines, and improvised explosive devices with tactical mobility suitable for a range of ground force missions.

EDGE said the technology transfer reflects its approach to working with European partners through localised industrial cooperation. By transferring both design authority and manufacturing capability, the company aims to support regional production while maintaining common standards aligned with European and NATO requirements.

“This agreement represents a firm step forward in our commitment to strengthening the Spanish industrial fabric,” said Fernando Fernández, Chief Executive Officer of EM&E Group. “Manufacturing this vehicle in Spain will not only reinforce our range of land-based solutions but also place our country at the centre of developing and producing these systems, contributing to European strategic autonomy.”

Khaled Al Zaabi, President – Platforms & Systems at EDGE, described the deal as part of the company’s broader effort to collaborate with European industry on land systems modernisation.

“Our transfer of technology to EM&E represents our growing commitment to supporting the modernisation requirements of European landward forces through establishing mutually beneficial partnerships within the European defence ecosystem,” he said. “Aimed at bolstering the mission readiness of ground forces with advanced armoured vehicle solutions, the FEROX will offer regional forces the latest technology in protection and mobility.”

The FEROX platform is designed to be adaptable, with configurations that can be tailored to meet the specific operational needs of European customers. While technical specifications were not disclosed, EM&E Group’s design authority will allow it to integrate national systems and comply with country-specific requirements.

The Linares facility is set to serve as a centre for assembly, integration, and potential future development of the FEROX platform. EM&E Group said its production line will deliver vehicles aligned with EU and NATO standards, ensuring interoperability among allied forces.
