Finland summons Russian envoy over suspected airspace breach
Finland’s Foreign Ministry has summoned Russia’s top diplomat in Helsinki following a suspected violation of Finnish airspace by a Russian military aircraft on June 10.
This marks the second such incident in under three weeks, raising concerns over escalating tensions in the region, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Finnish authorities believe a Russian military plane entered Finnish airspace off the coast of Porvoo, a city situated in the southern part of the Nordic country. The Finnish Border Guard has launched a formal investigation into the alleged incursion.
"The foreign ministry has invited Russia's acting head of mission to speak on the issue today," the ministry said.
A separate suspected violation of Finnish airspace took place last month, when two Russian military aircraft were believed to have entered Finnish territory near the coast of Porvoo. In response, Finland's foreign ministry summoned Russian Ambassador Pavel Kuznetsov to address questions regarding the incident.
