Fire breaks out at municipal landfill in Kyrgyzstan amid extreme heat VIDEO
A localised fire broke out at the municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, with authorities saying preliminary assessments point to unusually high temperatures as the likely cause.
According to Bishkek City Hall, the head of the city's Pervomaisky District, Ulan Sarylbek uulu, is at the scene overseeing the emergency response. Specialised municipal services have been deployed and are working around the clock to bring the fire under control, Caliber.Az reports via Kyrgyz media.
City officials said temperatures in some sections of the landfill had reached approximately 60°C before the outbreak, creating conditions that may have caused self-heating and spontaneous ignition of waste materials.
Authorities said the fire remains localised and the situation is under control. Emergency crews are continuing efforts to extinguish the blaze, prevent it from spreading, and ensure public safety.
No casualties or injuries have been reported, and officials have not announced any immediate impact on nearby communities.
