First case of kraken infection recorded in Montenegro
Montenegro has confirmed the first case of infection with the Omicron BA.2 substrain, which is known in the media as “Kraken”.
RTCG said that Montenegro has now been added to the list of nations where a mutation of a highly contagious strain has been detected by the Molecular Diagnostics Department of the Institute of Public Health.
“XBB.1.5. is a new subvariant of Omicron created by the combination of two other subvariants of this strain. It was registered for the first time in October in the United States of America (USA), where it currently circulates predominantly. European countries that have so far reported cases of infection with the XBB.1.5 subvariant are United Kingdom, Denmark, France, Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Iceland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Portugal,” announced the Institute for Public Health of Montenegro.
This institution notes that the evolution of the coronavirus continued in the direction of the emergence of subvariants that are easily transmitted, and which, fortunately, compared to the previous ones, do not cause more severe diseases, especially compared to the delta strain.
