Flooding forces school closures in northern Türkiye after heavy rains VIDEO
Authorities in northern Türkiye have suspended classes for one day in the Havza district of Samsun province after torrential rains triggered flooding and widespread waterlogging across the area.
Heavy rainfall caused the Hadji Osman and Tersakan rivers to overflow, inundating several settlements and damaging infrastructure, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
Local officials said multiple schools suffered flood-related damage and require restoration and cleanup work, prompting the temporary closure of educational institutions in the district.
Authorities reported that 12 people sustained minor injuries during the flooding and were taken to hospitals for treatment. An 83-year-old man remains under medical observation, while the others are being treated on an outpatient basis.
Floodwaters submerged basements and ground floors of residential buildings, while several vehicles were reportedly swept away by strong currents as water levels rose rapidly across the region.
Emergency and municipal teams continue cleanup and recovery operations as officials assess the extent of the damage caused by the storms.
