Flooding kills 13, injures 23, affects more than 12,000 people in Mali

At least 13 people have died and another 23 have been injured following flooding and other severe weather events in Mali, according to the Crisis Coordination and Management Centre of the country’s Ministry of Security and Civil Defence.

The incidents affected seven regions of the country, destroying 479 residential buildings and affecting 1,933 households, representing 12,405 people, Malijet reports. 

Figures compiled as of September 23 showed that Mali had recorded seven flooding incidents, 11 cases of lightning and five cases of high winds. The events resulted in 479 building collapses.

Authorities are taking measures to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to people who have lost their homes and food supplies, while efforts to address the aftermath of the disasters remain ongoing.

The government expressed condolences to the families of those who died and sympathy to those affected, reaffirming that all necessary measures are being taken to provide swift and appropriate assistance.
