FM: New chapter opens in Iran-Azerbaijan ties
Highlighting the opportunities for stronger cooperation between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said Tehran’s policy entails the enhancement of relations with Baku in all fields.
"The Republic of Azerbaijan holds an important position in Iran's neighbourhood policy, and the two nations share kinship ties beyond historical and neighbourly connections," Amirabdollahian said at a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov, held on the sidelines of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting in Jeddah on March 5, Tasnim News Agency reports.
The Iranian diplomat expressed satisfaction with the development of bilateral relations, adding, "Fortunately, a new chapter has opened in the relations between the two countries, promising opportunities for mutual cooperation. There are many prospects for collaboration that benefit both nations."
Highlighting Tehran's policy to enhance relations with Baku in all fields, Amirabdollahian said Iran is ready to host the next meeting of the joint commission of the two countries.
He also underscored the importance of joint efforts and actions to make regional multilateral structures more active in advancing the common interests of regional countries, the Foreign Ministry said.
For his part, Bayramov described continuous bilateral consultations with his Iranian counterpart as useful and productive.
He said the Republic of Azerbaijan’s policy is to maintain close relations with its neighbours, and Iran holds a special position in this regard.
Pointing to the joint projects, Bayramov expressed hope that these projects would be implemented and come on stream as soon as possible.
The two senior diplomats finally discussed various regional development, including the crisis in Palestine.
