Former Moldovan PM: Washington agreement to clarify fate of 4,000 missing persons
The declaration signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington on August 8, 2025, will help clarify the fate of 4,000 missing persons, said Kirill Gaburich, former Moldovan Prime Minister and member of the International Nizami Ganjavi Center.
He made the remarks at an international conference in Baku titled “Joining Efforts and Expanding Cooperation to Address the Issue of Missing Persons,” Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
“The declaration signed in Washington has ended the years-long conflict. Based on this document, the parties have assumed humanitarian obligations. This gives great hope that the fate of more than 4,000 missing persons will be clarified,” he said.
The August 8 summit in Washington saw Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan sign a joint declaration establishing a seven-point framework emphasising mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, the renunciation of force, and steps toward regional integration.
A key component of the framework is the TRIPP, widely referred to as the Zangezur Corridor. This strategically significant transit route through southern Armenia is intended to connect Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave, supporting economic growth and fostering regional cooperation.
Additionally, the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan initialled a draft Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations in the presence of Trump, Aliyev, and Pashinyan, marking a milestone in efforts to secure lasting peace and integration in the South Caucasus.
