Former NATO military chief: Ukraine aid is investment, not charity
Former Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, said the “democratic part of the world” must continue supporting Ukraine and should not allow it to be defeated as a sovereign state.
“And we, the democratic part of the world, must continue to support Ukraine for many reasons. First of all, we must not allow a sovereign state to disappear as a result of an attack by another state... In addition, this is important for the security of Europe and the democratic world as a whole. Therefore, this is a call to all countries that support Ukraine,” Bauer said in an interview with Ukraine’s Channel 24.
Bauer added that he was “impressed” by the level of international support Ukraine has received during its conflict with Russia, noting that without such assistance, continuing the fight would not have been possible.
He also urged policymakers to reject debates over whether to continue aid, arguing that such support is “in the interests of the West” and should be viewed not as charity but as an investment in long-term security.
