Four security personnel killed in Syria as internal security forces foil terrorist attack
Four members of the Internal Security Forces were killed and two others injured on February 23 after a terrorist cell targeted a security checkpoint in the northeastern Syrian city of Raqqa, authorities said.
According to a statement published on Telegram by the Ministry of Interior, security forces successfully thwarted the attack and neutralised one of the assailants during the confrontation. The ministry described the incident as a deliberate attempt to destabilise the area, Caliber.Az reports per SANA.
Security units have launched a comprehensive sweep of the surrounding sector to track down and eliminate the remaining members of the cell involved in the assault. Officials said the operation is ongoing and aims to fully restore security in the area.
The ministry added that the attack marks the second incident targeting Internal Security Forces in the region within 48 hours. A similar assault on the same checkpoint was reported a day earlier, during which another suspected militant was killed while attempting to carry out an attack.
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the incidents.
