France to ban vegan names 'steak' and 'sausage'
France will ban the naming of vegetarian and vegan products in the same way as meat products.
Thus, according to the Daily Mail, it will not be possible to sell vegetarian "steaks" and "sausages" in the country, according to Gazeta.ru.
“It will no longer be possible to use industry terminology traditionally associated with meat and fish to refer to products that are not related to the animal world and are incompatible with non-inherently. The decree is an important step towards ensuring that the client receives transparent information, as well as the preservation of our products and know-how,” the regulator said in the decree.
Representatives of the French meat industry, who have been lobbying for this initiative for many years, approved the new norm.
Terms such as "milk", "butter" and "cheese" are already banned at the European level for products of non-animal origin.
