French military chief urges preparation for possible war with Russia
Chief of Staff of the French Armed Forces, General Fabien Mandon, has said that France’s military must be ready to face Russia within the next three to four years.
According to Le Figaro, the general stated that such a confrontation could become a major test for the French army. Mandon added that the potential conflict could take the form of a “hybrid war, which we are already experiencing,” or possibly “more intense clashes.”
He asserted that “Russia is a country that may be tempted to continue the war on the continent,” describing this as a key element in his plan for military preparedness.
To face such a scenario, the general emphasised the need to increase France’s defence budget.
A day earlier, French Army Chief of Staff Pierre Schill also said that Europe must prepare for an “inevitable” war, which, in his words, “could start in the morning.”
