FSB foils assassination attempt on popular Russian TV presenter
Authorities in Russia’s Ulyanovsk region have arrested a man accused of planning an assassination attempt on television host Vladimir Solovyov.
According to the Federal Security Service (FSB), the suspect, a resident of Dimitrovgrad, allegedly acted on instructions from Ukrainian intelligence services between April 2024 and June 2025, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
The FSB said the suspect travelled to Moscow to gather information on Solovyov’s routines and movements. After returning to Ulyanovsk, he reportedly collected data on the location of defence industry facilities.
A criminal case has been opened under Russia’s anti-terrorism legislation, with the suspect charged with involvement in the activities of a terrorist organisation (Article 205.5, Part 2 of the Russian Criminal Code).
He faces up to 20 years in prison and has been remanded in custody while investigations continue.
