Geneva emerges as possible venue for US-Iran negotiations
Switzerland is prepared to host negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict between the United States and Iran, Swiss Foreign Ministry spokesperson Melanie Gugelmann said in comments to TASS.
“Switzerland is always ready to offer its good offices,” Gugelmann said while commenting on reports that Geneva could serve as the venue for upcoming talks between Washington and Tehran.
She added that Switzerland is ready “to support any diplomatic initiative aimed at promoting peace.”
“The Foreign Ministry maintains contacts with all parties involved,” she stressed.
The statement follows a report by Axios, citing sources familiar with the matter, that Washington and Tehran are close to signing a one-page memorandum intended to end the armed conflict between the two countries.
According to the report, follow-up negotiations on the details of a broader agreement could be held either in Islamabad or Geneva.
