China under water: Torrential rains leave cities flooded, families trapped VIDEO
Heavy rainfall over the past several days has triggered severe flooding and prompted emergency response operations across parts of Jiangxi Province in eastern China and Hunan Province in central China.
Authorities in Jingdezhen City, Jiangxi Province, issued a red alert for heavy rain—the highest level in China's four-tier weather warning system—after more than 100 millimetres of rainfall fell within three hours in urban districts of Jingdezhen and southern areas of Fuliang County. The downpour caused widespread waterlogging, prompting local authorities to mobilize personnel and equipment to drain floodwaters from affected areas, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
According to the Fuliang County Meteorological Bureau, the county recorded heavy to torrential rainfall between 08:00 Monday and 08:00 Tuesday, with average precipitation reaching 75 millimetres. The intense rainfall led to significant flooding on several road sections in the county seat, disrupting traffic and daily activities.
Emergency management teams, traffic police officers, and city management personnel were deployed to affected locations, where they installed warning signs, directed traffic, and cleared blocked drainage systems to accelerate water runoff. Authorities reported that floodwaters have gradually receded and traffic conditions are returning to normal.
In a separate incident in Zhangshu City, Jiangxi Province, a family of three became stranded on the roof of their vehicle after heavy rain caused deep floodwater accumulation at a culvert and their car stalled. Local firefighters responded swiftly to the emergency and found the vehicle partially submerged. Using life jackets and other rescue equipment, emergency crews evacuated the child first before safely rescuing the two adults.
Meanwhile, in Suining County, Hunan Province, heavy rainfall between 08:00 June 22 and 11:00 June 23 triggered multiple hazards, including flooding that blocked major roads in Dongshan Township. Local authorities erected warning signs and deployed personnel around the clock to guide motorists and pedestrians away from submerged sections and reduce the risk of accidents.
Efforts to accommodate affected residents remain underway, while workers continue to clear and reopen previously closed roads. Authorities said conditions are gradually improving as floodwaters recede and normal life begins to resume in the affected areas.
