German commuter transport faces standstill amid call for strike
Bus and suburban rail services may be suspended across Germany on February 2 due to a nationwide strike announced by trade unions.
Around 100,000 transport workers will join the protests, Caliber.Az reports, citing a Western outlet.
The German service sector union Verdi has called a nationwide strike over wage levels among municipal workers.
The union is also demanding better working conditions in local public transport, such as shorter working hours, longer breaks, and higher pay for night and weekend shifts.
The protest is expected to last until February 3, but in Cologne, the strike will continue on Wednesday, February 4.
"It is safe to assume that public transport will come to a standstill in the affected transport systems," union Verdi said in a statement.
