German FM faces backlash over video featuring Russian music

Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul sparked controversy after posting a social media video set to the Russian track “Patriki.”

The video, shared on his Instagram page, quickly drew a flood of angry comments. Users pointed out that the video featured Russian music, while Wadephul had previously repeatedly called Russians the enemies of Europe. 

“Is this the same person who said Russia will always be our enemy?” one Instagram user wrote. 

Many comments criticised Wadephul and his team for choosing an inappropriate track for the video. Despite the backlash, the minister did not remove the post.
