German FM urges Israel to open more Gaza crossings

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has called on Israel to open additional border crossings into the Gaza Strip, saying Germany is ready to provide humanitarian aid and support reconstruction efforts.

He said in a post on X that Hamas has agreed to the roadmap for disarmament, Caliber.Az reports.

"Hopeful news from Gaza: Hamas has agreed to a roadmap for disarmament. I welcome agreement reached by the US with support of mediators from Nickolay E. Mladenov. It is now key that real progress is made and Hamas actually disarms. It must never again pose a threat to Israel," Wadephul wrote on X.

He also welcomed Israel's steps to facilitate the deployment of an international stabilisation force.

"I welcome Israel’s steps to enable deployment of ISF. Germany stands ready to support the people of Gaza with humanitarian aid and early recovery. Thus, additional crossings into Gaza should be opened without delay. We will do our part to help implement this agreement," the German foreign minister added.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that the Washington-backed Peace Council had reached an agreement on the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza. He also said Israeli forces would withdraw from the enclave once the disarmament process is completed.
