German Foreign Ministry recalls ambassador from Georgia
Germany’s Foreign Ministry has decided to recall its ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, for consultations on further actions.
According to a Ministry's statement, Georgia’s leadership has spent several months campaigning against the European Union, Germany, and the German ambassador personally, Sputnik Georgia reports.
Georgian authorities, including Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, have repeatedly accused Ambassador Fischer of supporting revolutionary movements in Georgia and interfering in the country’s internal affairs.
“For many months, the Georgian leadership has spoken out sharply against the European Union, Germany, and personally against the German ambassador [Peter] Fischer. Therefore, the German Foreign Ministry has decided to recall Ambassador Fischer for consultations on the next steps,” the ministry emphasised.
On October 20, the EU Council on Foreign Affairs will review the situation in Georgia.
