German official urges halt to payments for Ukrainian refugees to aid mobilisation efforts
Secretary of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) of Germany Thorsten Frei called on to deprive Ukrainian refugees of social payments to help Ukraine with mobilisation.
Payments to refugees from Ukraine "create completely false incentives", Frei said, Gazeta.ru reports, citing the Funke media group.
The secretary noted that Kyiv needs not only weapons, but also soldiers, but many men of conscription age have left the country.
Frei believes that the decision of the Ukrainian authorities to stop providing consular services to conscripted Ukrainians living abroad will not force them to go back, since in Germany they receive social benefits sufficient for a trouble-free living.
He also expressed dissatisfaction with the payment of allowances to Ukrainian women who came to Germany.
The official called unacceptable the situation in which the majority of Ukrainian women who found asylum in European countries work, while in Germany they do not.
