Germany deploys Eurofighters to Poland to bolster NATO’s eastern protection
Germany has deployed Eurofighter jets to Poland to strengthen NATO’s eastern defence.
The fighter group departed from the Nörvenich airbase in Germany and relocated to the Malbork military airfield in Poland, Caliber.Az reports, citing Die Welt.
“With this mission, our soldiers, alongside our alert detachment already stationed in Romania since August, are making another valuable contribution to the protection of the eastern alliance territory. With this, we are sending another strong signal of support to our neighbouring country, Poland and to NATO as a whole,” Chief of the German Air Force, Lieutenant General Holger Neumann said.
The Air Force was already in August and September with fighter jets at the Polish military airbase in Malbork.
It is located about 60 kilometres southeast of Gdańsk and 80 kilometres from the Russian Baltic exclave of Kaliningrad.
The Bundeswehr is sending a unit of about 150 men and women with the aircraft, including not only pilots but also technicians, logisticians, security personnel, and military police.
The deployment is initially scheduled until March.
