Germany, Norway collaborate on hypersonic missiles for German navy frigates
Germany and Norway have embarked on a joint venture to develop hypersonic missiles specifically designed for deployment on German Navy frigates, aiming for operational readiness by the year 2035.
This ambitious project based on confidential documents, underscores a strategic collaboration to advance maritime defence capabilities, Caliber.Az reports citing foreign media.
The initiative seeks to create a cutting-edge, long-range hypersonic-guided missile tailored for targeting maritime threats effectively. Hypersonic technology offers unparalleled speed and manoeuvrability, presenting a significant advancement in naval warfare capabilities.
In pursuit of this goal, Germany's Bundestag budget committee has earmarked 652 million euros to fund the development and integration of these missiles onto its frigate fleet. This financial commitment highlights Germany's dedication to modernizing its naval forces with state-of-the-art weaponry.
Norway's involvement in the project is pivotal, with its Tyrfing sea-based hypersonic missile project serving as the foundation for collaboration. Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace, a renowned defence contractor in Norway, has been entrusted as the lead contractor for this venture. Their expertise in advanced missile systems and naval technologies positions them as a key partner in achieving the project's objectives.
